Smoking Cessation

LLLT for smoking cessation historically has an average between 70-80% success rate; far above any other methods commonly used for quitting smoking. “Commonly used nicotine replacement therapies such as the nicotine patch (13%), nicotine inhaler (17%), nicotine gum (18%) and nicotine nasal spray (24%) do not even compare.” (Nicotine Replacement Therapies in Smoking Cessation – A review of Evidence and Policy Issues: Canadian Council on Tobacco Control, 2000).

How Does Laser Therapy Work for Smoking Cessation?

A low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is used to stimulate specific points on the ears, face and hands, which releases the body’s own natural endorphins and has a calming effect on the central nervous system. This release of endorphins replaces the physical dependency on nicotine and helps to alleviate cravings, anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.

Each laser therapy treatment takes about half an hour and there is no discomfort during or after the treatment. Laser therapy also helps to suppress the appetite and reduces stress and anxiety associated with quitting smoking.

Cool LLLT is a tool and works well, when combined with other smoking cessation strategies such as determination, habit changes etc. Results may vary from person to person. It is important that you want to quit smoking. Part of smoking is physical addiction and part of smoking is mental habit. There is no treatment, pill or patch that will change your habits. It can take a few weeks to change your habits and some triggers may cause some annoying moments while you are learning to be a non-smoker. We do promise good results but there is no “miracle cure” when it comes to quitting smoking. We offer consultation appointments prior to treatment to inform, encourage and prepare you to become successful.
